Review of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in a General Hospital Setting: Experience from a Developing Country

Background: Plastic and reconstructive surgery in developing countries underserved areas are significantly limited face changes to start a proper service. This study presents review of plastic services experiences district hospital located an area.Methods: descriptive, retrospective, hospital-based was conducted patients who presented the reconstruction departments from January 2014 2015. All seen outpatient clinic or emergency for surgical consultation management were included study.Results: The total 403 cases fulfilled inclusion criteria. operation performed our unit distributed following descending order; fingertip injury (32%), cut wrist (12.7%), extensor tendon (9.9%), gunshot injuries (9.4%), fracture small bone hand (8.3%), lower limb trauma. Surgery congenital deformities constituted most elective done (31.6 %), followed by tumor (18.7%), burn (17.3%), aesthetic procedure (12.2%), other miscellaneous (12.2%).Conclusion: report demonstrates efficacy secondary setting accommodate large volume during first year establishment, further predicting development needs, staff training, governmental support.
